About the Author
Dr. Anthony Parton is a specialist in Russian avant-garde art of the early-20th century. He is author of Mikhail Larionov and the Russian Avant-garde, editor of Women Artists of Russia's New Age and has contributed many scholarly essays on the subject of Russian modernism to exhibition catalogues, journals and reference works. He is lecturer in the History of Art at Durham University.

Does this book contain forgeries?

I was considering this book until I was directed to the Artnews magazine article from the summer 2011. The Russian government and Tretyakov gallery claim that of the 600 illustrations 150 or so are of forgeries. Reading further there is much controversy around this book. In Feb. 2010 Goncharova's work, Espagnole, sold at Christies in London for a price that made her the highest selling woman artist. Since that time there is a proliferation of forgeries. There is another author involved with this question, Denise Bazetoux. What is true? Do not know. It is worth reading the 2011 ARtnews article. Interested in others knowledge or comments. Still seeking good Goncharova's book.
