About the Author
John Edmond (Jack) Sparling (June 21, 1916 - February 15, 1997) was a Canadian - American comics artist. Sparling was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but moved to the United States as a child. He received his early arts training at the Arts and Crafts Club in New Orleans, and later attended the Corcoran School of Art. He worked briefly as a gag cartoonist for the New Orleans Item-Tribune. In 1941 Sparling, along with writers Drew Pearson and Robert S. Allen, created the comic strip Hap Hopper, Washington Correspondent. The strip premiered in 1939; Sparling drew the strip until 1943, when he was succeeded by Al Plastino.

Very nicely illustrated, all-color, version of Robin Hood. It is comics and so there is some reduction in text, but the author still preserved the original English (thou- thee) which is nice (and also makes it tad harder to read for my little guy who is beginning reader). All in all, very well nice way to retell classics and I'd buy again.

Finally, someone cracks the code!

Nonprofit has always seemed to have a whole secret world and secret language to it. Lyn Scott's book "From Passion to Execution" finally helped me to stop feeling like an idiot. I've always been curious about how to even begin starting a nonprofit for women in business but I have felt overwhelmed. Ms. Scott's book gave me step by step how to's with excellent examples. This should be the first book any wannabe nonprofit person should start with.

I have been reading non-profit "how-to's" for many years and this one takes the lead! This book did an excellent job of illustrating each and every step of establishing a non-profit from conception to execution. I now feel confident in my next endeavor and appreciate the lessons learned from this book. I encourage anyone who may be interested in taking the leap of faith and starting their own non-profit to read this book!

What to do, but how?

This book presents a volley of what-to-do to create your non-profit but is painfully short on how-to-do-it. The book does present a good birds-eye view of how to create a non-profit organization, but gives no helpful advice on just how to carry out the steps. There are many examples presented, but nothing that really helps move you forward in creating a non-profit. I felt this was an expensive primer that did not give the necessary information on developing a non-profit from the ground up. In the end, it did not live up to its sub-title, "How to start and grow an effective nonprofit organization."

If you are looking for an overview of what needs to be done, without needing detailed step-by-step instruction this book achieves that purpose. If you are looking for a detailed book outlining what you need to do AND how to do it, this book will lead to frustration.

In short, if you're only going to be buying one book on how to start a non-profit, avoid this one.
