About the Author
John Howe was born in 1957 in Vancouver, Canada. He moved to France in 1976 and gained a Diploma in Illustration at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs de Strasbourg in 1981. He has illustrated many French children's books, but is best known for his Tolkien calendars, book jackets, maps and posters, and he is currently working as a production designer on New Line Cinema's forthcoming Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

This simply stunning fold-out, full-color map accompanied by an illustrated booklet, has to be the ultimate guide to `Beleriand'. Including information which details the background to J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion, prepare to be enlightened and spellbound by this booklet! Set within the First Age of Middle-Earth, many thousands of years before the events chronicled in `The Lord of the Rings', you will be transported to the foundations of Tolkien's creation....where it all began. Beleriand was the setting for the war of the jewels (*note: history of Middle-Earth book 11), as also recounted within The Silmarillion. This is a faithfully reproduced map, based on the original map by Christopher Tolkien. It is embellished with heraldic emblems and dramatic, significant scenes from the book.

`The map of Tolkien's Beleriand and the lands to the North' is the third map within a series, which completes the trio ~ alongside `there and back again: the map of The Hobbit' and `the map of Tolkien's Middle-Earth'. Great map of the 1st age

Don't pick this up unless you're a real fan of Tolkien (and not just the Lord of the Rings) and you've read 'the Silmarilion' front to back.

These maps are set in the first age of Middle Earth, and except for some of the Mountain Ranges (Ered Gorgoroth, among others)... none of the places and names that we've heard of in the Hobbit and LOTR make it here.

That said, it's a rare find for any fan and is a great buy. I spent a lot of time poring over it and using the accompanying booklet to identify places on the map, and remembering what event happened there in the Silmarilion.

Best meant for collectors and fans of Tolkien's work outside of LOTR.

Prehistory of the Americas (Fiedel)

This is a wide-ranging summary of the entire prehistory of North, Central, and South America. This book does a good job at giving a broad and general introduction of the entire scope of prehistory for these continents. It is a cheap and relatively solid reference book for at an introductory level for the non-specialist.
The text, however, has many drawbacks. It contains very few illustrations and the ones that are in the book are black-and-white line drawings. For a subject like archaeology, maps, pictures of distincitive artifact types, and some just plain visiually appealing pictures are necessary to illustrate points and keep the reader interested. This book is written at a fine general level, but is too dry for most students let alone the general public to enjoy and retain what they've read.
The biggest attractions of this book are it's price and the fact that it covers a wide area in time and space and subject matter. However, it does not make a good coffee table book, a fun pleasure reading book, nor a really effective textbook. There are other books that cover subsets of the subject matter extremely well.
There are other books that cover the same range and depth as this particular book. One that comes to mind is better illustrated than Fiedel's book and easier to read, but is outdated and outright wrong (whereas Fiedel can be counted on to be more accurate). Likewise, the other books that cover the entiretly of North, Central and South American seem to have some flaw. So, this book is flawed. But so are comparable texts. Picking a book on New World prehistory is somewhat like picking a spouse -- you have to decide which one to go with by looking at which flaws you would rather live with.

A good place to start

Coming at this subject with little knowledge and prepared for the worst I got this. I don't think I could have done better. OK so it's 18 years old and things move on (phytoliths and better radiocarbon dating for example). But I manages to cover EVERYTHING in enough detail that you feel you know where to start looking for more info. The book is academic but, there being no eyewitness accounts, so is the subject matter.
But the best part to me is the writing. Prof Fiedel is clear, fluent and does have an opinion. His analyses of such things as the first hunters onto the continent, the rise of population, the first settlements, agriculture, civilisation and trade is clear and a pleasure to read. He is excellent at demolishing standard models for these events by pointing out the cases where they don't work.
Yes, the book hasn't got many pictures. Yes the maps are often in the wrong place in the book and sometimes they haven't got all the sites labelled. But you can probably look up the rest on the internet now (something you probably couldn't have done when the book was first published). Seeing as there's nothing else quite like this (why, I don't know), it's a good place to start.

This book is completely out of date.

There has been so much new information since this book was written, including significant new information about pre-Clovis people. It was last edited in 1992, making it 18 years out of date, given the fast moving world of American prehistory.

Interested in more up to date history? Try The First Americans by Adovasio, or The Settlement of the Americas by Dillehay. There may be newer publications as well, but these two are balanced and extensive. Dillehay's book requires attention and study, but it is worth it.

Truly a SPECTACULAR Combo Set - Mark Tremonti & Myles Kennedy DVD / Tab Set - Great Album, but this is even better!

When Tremonti left Creed to start Alterbridge, he became unbridled and it shows. When in the atmosphere of Creed, he was doing rhythm, he emerged as a soloist in this album. Well worth the buy, don't hesitate on this DVD/ Book set or the album!!!

I'm a big fan and have all the books and the (2) Tremonti Instructional DVDs, Each one is excellent! Tremonti also opened his own band, aptly named Tremonti and it is a bit more raw and heavier. You'll love it! Check it out!!

This DVD is a bit different than the first DVD which is Mark Tremonti: The Sound and the Story (Excellent to get A++++)

This one feature both Mark and Myles playing through and teaching the various parts of the songs covered in this new Fortress Album. It's a TWOFER!!!

Seriously the first one was great, but it's even better with the two of them. So happy that I got this, worth every penny. The DVD also comes with a small notebook including the tablature covered in the DVD. The notebook is the size of the DVD case, awesome bonus!

The tab book is beyond excellent for clarifying everything you see in the video. It also has a different camera angle feature which is spectacular to have on an instructional DVD.

Throughout the DVD, mark also goes over his entire rig and his personal life. If you have the first one, you can pick up interesting tidbits, such as, even though for over 15 years, I was a PRS Guitars Dealer. Also have met Mark on a few occasions and he is truly a humble beastly player. Great Guy! It was only in the DVD, that he mentions the fact that in his relation with PRS, he was actually the SECOND artist to ever get a Signature PRS Guitar, only following Santana, himself as being PRS's first Artist to have their own Signature Axe!!!

This is one of the best DVD's you can pick up, I highly recommend it! Hope the review helps:)

Incredible guide to play Fortress!

You can learn song to song with two great teachers, Kennedy and Tremonti. They are very thorough in the lessons.
It contains 2 dvd's also a book with the complete tabs of this great album.
I don't regret buying it!

An informative approach to reversen the aging process, is all about this book in the series..

The author Rachita Kumar has done some great work on Stop Aging series again. I've read an earlier version to it How to Stop Aging (Volume - I), but I found the beauty secrets revealed in this volume - II to be more informative and assertive to help stop or reverse the aging process.

The sections covering - slowing the aging skin process through the anti-wrinkle treatments are having elaborative information on the subject, which I liked most.

Like I discovered in stop aging vol-1, this book also had an unannounced special gift for me as a bonus at the end section and that was awesome.

I look forward to having all volumes in the series as and when they get published!

A Book For All Adults.

If you are a health conscious person, this book gives you good reasons to incorporate skin care to your daily routine. This book is short, easy to read yet packed full with good information on how to maintain and improve skin health.

Rachita goes through the steps to take from a young age and the various things to add to your daily routine as you get older. Anti-aging is not just about skin and the author explains the importance of other things such as stress and diet.

I enjoyed reading this book and fully recommend it.

Great Advice, well presented

I really liked the approach taken by this author - that the skin should be treated like the living organ that it is, with nutrients from the inside of the body rather than chemical compounds from the outside of the body.

I found the tips classified by age (your 20's, 30's, and 40's) particularly helpful, and the Questions answered in the last chapter cleared-up several misconceptions for me.

Whether you're a young person looking to protect your skin, or a more "senior" person looking to rejuvenate your skin, this book has some great information and tips.
